Formed in 2010, Synaptic Chaos Theatre is a collectively-run improv/comedy troupe with a flair for all things geeky. We love doing shows for geek-flavoured gatherings, like anime conventions, comic expos, sci-fi conventions – anywhere you see geeks having a good time.
Thinking of booking some entertainment for your next con? Just contact us with your request. We’ll work with you to create a custom schedule of events designed to suit your attendees. That’s right – we do more than improv.
SCT also does non-geek events from time to time. Want us at your charitable fundraiser, wedding, school workshop, or corporate team-building event? Contact us for details.
Here’s What We Do!
It’s our main interest. At conventions, we can do one 90-minute show per day (more if you really like us). Shows can be longer or shorter, depending on your schedule needs. We keep the show to PG or 14A rating for everyone’s enjoyment.
Late-night improv has been popular for audiences aged 18+. Since we’re up late anyway, we can do the show for up to 120 minutes, rated R. All attendees must bring ID and be carded at the door.
More Than Improv!
SCT isn’t all about improv. Every year, we develop new ideas for panels and entertainment. If you have an idea for a panel that might benefit from seasoned actors (e.g. murder mystery, LARPing), please contact us. We’re always excited to do new interesting things!
Doki-Doki Kyuu-Kyuu Challenge!
“In the mood for something less physical? Come see “Doki-Doki Kyuu-Kyuu Challenge”, a panel game where two opposing teams are given silly things to do by host Coriander Dickinson, all the while braving her Wheel of Funishment! A co-production of tiltyhouse.com and Synaptic Chaos Theatre.”
“Doki-Doki Kyuu-Kyuu Challenge” is a 60-minute live punishment-style game show.
Late Night Dub Fight
“Relive moments from your favourite anime, cartoons and TV shows in a new and hilarious light! The Late-Night Dub-Fight pits members of Synaptic Chaos Theatre and guests against each other to find out who can “improve” classic clips by redubbing them live with their imposing improv skills. No one knows what show host Ian Horner has up his sleeves, or what the cast members will say in this all-out assault on your funny bone.”
“Late Night Dub Fight” is a 60-minute live re-dubbing comedy panel show.
Acting for Cosplayers
“For all cosplayers and actors alike! Synaptic Chaos Theatre will teach you how to improve your acting skills so you can shine on stage!”
“Acting for Cosplayers” is a 90-120 minute seminar describing introductory acting techniques, where attendees are led through exercises to help improve their acting techniques.
How to Improv
“Join Synaptic Chaos Theatre for lessons on developing your own improv skills. Get a look at how these talented funnymen (and women) have honed their craft for over a decade!”
“How to Improv” is a 90-120 minute introductory course to improv techniques, taught through lecture and through practical demonstration with all attendees.
Roll Your Own Con

“Roll Your Own Con” is a 60-90 minute educational lecture describing the basic elements of a convention.
Anime Match Game
“Has anime warped your mind? Can it stand up to the panel from Synaptic Chaos Theatre?! Join host Eryn Dearden and compete to win fantastic prizes in this great twist on the classic game show! A co-production of Robomiko, tiltyhouse.com, and Synaptic Chaos Theatre.”
“Anime Match Game” is a 120-minute audience participation game show structured after the classic Match Game, where contestants try to match the answers of panel members (in this case, SCT)
Celebrity Jam Session
“Eager to see a different side of our celebrity guests? Grab a seat at Synaptic Chaos Theatre’s Celebrity Jam Session and watch our guests live out their rockstar dreams!”
“Celebrity Jam Session” is a 60-minute musical jam session, where convention guests of honour are invited to bring an instrument and play in a loose jam. For this event, we ask that you invite your guests to participate at least 60 days in advance, and contact SCT so that we can collaborate on rehearsing songs for the 60 days prior to the event.
Improv for Roleplayers
“Every RPG has one – the rules lawyer, the minmaxer, the game-destroyer. Synaptic Chaos Theatre has the cure for your RPG woes – IMPROV! Join SCT for a talk/demo on how improv rules can turn your campaign from party-loss into legend!”
“Improv for Roleplayers” is a 90 minute seminar teaching basic improv rules and applying them to common game-breaking situations in table-top roleplaying games and LARP.
